Tutorial: 5 Different Ways To Dress Up A Braid

Braids are always in style and go with most any outfit. Whether you’re needing to hide second day bangs or simply feel like wearing your hair up, a braid is a great solution to wearing your hair up without looking frumpy. Check out these five different ways to dress up the average braid!

1. Double Side Braid

Start by parting your hair in the center and gather a small front section from one side. Braid the first section until it is as long as you desire and secure with a bobby pin. Repeat on the other side and spray with your favorite hair spray. We used Oribe Superfine hair spray.

2. Bang Braid

Start by parting your hair on the side. To create this look you will need to french braid the entire front section of hair closest to your face. We chose to do an inside out braid, pulling each section of hair and braiding it underneath into the french braid instead of on top, but a normal braid works just fine! After you finish your french braid, secure with a bobby pin and spray with your favorite hair spray.

3. Romantic Side Braid

For this look, you will french braid your hair from one side all the way to the other side in the back. Start the french braid on one side of your head by your ear and keep it as close to your neck as you can. Once you reach the other side of your head, continue the braid to that side and secure with a hair tie once you can see it from the front. Finish off with a firm hold hairspray. We used Oribe Superfine Strong hair spray.

4. Braid Within A Braid

Braid a small section of hair and secure it with a small rubber band hair tie. Next gather all hair to one side and braid it making sure to keep the smaller braid on the top of each section you cross the sections over one another. Once you reach the end of the braid, remove the rubber band hair tie on the smaller braid and secure all hair together with a hair tie. Spray with your favorite hair spray.

5. Loose Fishtail Pigtail Braids

Instead of just one fishtail braid, try this spin on pigtail braids and wear two fishtail braids! For this look, we left out the front sections of hair and kept both fishtail braids very loose. Secure each braid with a hair tie and make sure to use a strong hold hair spray. If you aren’t sure how to fishtail braid, reference our fishtail braid tutorial.
